A Spicy Twist on the Classic Old Fashioned

Unveiling Our Newest Fall Cocktail – A Spicy Twist on the Classic Old Fashioned

As the air turns crisp and autumn settles in, we at The Vintage Horse Mobile Bar are thrilled to introduce one of our newest fall creations: a spicy twist on the classic Old Fashioned. This cocktail is the epitome of warmth, flavor, and sophistication, and we can’t wait for you to try it at your next event.

This isn't just any Old Fashioned—it's a bold fusion of rich bourbon or rye with a kick of jalapeño-infused simple syrup, perfectly balanced by the depth of Angostura bitters and the sweetness of a Luxardo cherry. The heat from the jalapeño adds an unexpected layer of complexity, making each sip a delightful journey of flavors.

Here’s how you can create this autumn masterpiece:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye

  • 1/4 ounce jalapeño simple syrup or rich demerara syrup

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • 1 orange peel

  • 1 Luxardo cherry with a drizzle of cherry juice

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing glass, combine the bourbon, simple syrup, bitters, and a drizzle of cherry juice.

  2. Fill the glass halfway with ice and stir vigorously about a dozen times to chill and blend the flavors.

  3. Strain the mixture into a chilled old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube.

  4. Squeeze an orange peel over the glass to release the oils, rub the rim with the peel, and then drop it into the glass.

  5. Top with a Luxardo cherry for a touch of sweetness.

Jalapeño Simple Syrup:

  • Ingredients:

    • 1 cup water

    • 1 cup granulated sugar

    • ⅓ cup sliced jalapeño (from 1-2 jalapeño peppers)

  • Instructions:

    1. In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar, bringing the mixture to a boil.

    2. Add the sliced jalapeños and reduce the heat, letting it simmer for about 10 minutes until the syrup thickens.

    3. Pour the mixture into a heat-proof bowl or mason jar, straining out the peppers if you prefer a milder spice. Let it cool completely before using.

This cocktail is more than just a drink—it's an experience that will set your event apart. The combination of spicy, sweet, and smooth will leave your guests raving about your cocktail selection. Whether it’s a sophisticated corporate gathering or an intimate wedding reception, this Old Fashioned with a jalapeño kick is sure to be the star of the evening.

Raise a glass to autumn with this unforgettable cocktail!
