The Ultimate Cozy Cocktail

At The Vintage Horse Mobile Bar, we love taking classic cocktails and giving them a fresh seasonal twist. If you’re a fan of the traditional hot toddy, you’re in for a treat with our Apple Cider Hot Toddy. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and warmth, elevated with a cozy fall flavor profile.

This comforting cocktail starts with the classic hot toddy base of hot water, whiskey, and honey or sweetener, but we’ve taken it to the next level with rich apple cider, warming spices, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Each sip is like a warm hug—sweet, spiced, and oh-so-soothing.

Not only is the Apple Cider Hot Toddy a seasonal delight, but it’s also a multitasker. Need a little comfort on a chilly night? Check. Want to soothe a sore throat? Double-check. Looking for the ultimate crowd-pleaser for your fall or winter cocktail party? You’ve found it.

Garnished with a cinnamon stick and a slice of fresh apple, this cocktail is as beautiful as it is delicious. It’s a drink that impresses your guests while keeping things relaxed and approachable—just like we love to do at The Vintage Horse.

Whether you’re planning a cozy evening by the fire or a festive holiday gathering, the Apple Cider Hot Toddy is your go-to cocktail for the season. Cheers to warming up in style!

Check out the recipe below for all the details on making this crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup apple cider

  • 1 whole star anise

  • ½ cinnamon stick, plus extra for garnish

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1.5 oz whiskey, or bourbon

  • apple slices, to garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the apple cider, star anise, and cinnamon stick in a small saucepan over high heat. Bring the cider to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes, or until the cinnamon stick opens up.

  2. Pour the maple syrup, lemon juice, and whiskey into a mug. Pour the warm cider into the mug, then stir until well combined, ensuring the maple syrup has dissolved completely.

  3. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and/or apple slice and sip right away. Enjoy!
